Get to know Jill Pierce
Jill is a strings teacher (violin, viola, cello and double bass) with a passion for sharing her love of music with students of all ages. Jill is dedicated to creating a fun and individualized approach to each student. She has experience teaching students of all ages from pre-school through adult, and she enjoys exploring a wide variety of styles depending on what you are most interested in, including classical, jazz, fiddle and bluegrass, pop and more. Whether you are starting out your journey with learning a new instrument or wanting to dust off the strings and jump back into playing again, Jill will help you develop your skills and achieve your musical goals! Jill grew up in the heart of Upstate New York in Syracuse and moved to the Carolinas in 2016. When not teaching and playing, Jill enjoys baking, cake decorating, hiking, exploring the Carolina coast and spending time with her husband, son and dog, Finley.
Education and Experience
Jill has been playing stringed instruments for twenty-five years. She received both her Bachelor of Music in Music Education (2010) and Master of Music in Music Education (2011) from Syracuse University. She has held professional teaching licenses in the states of New York, North Carolina and South Carolina and has been a member of the American String Teachers Association since 2008. Jill has held the position of Orchestra Director at the Chittenango Central School District in Chittenango, NY for five years before moving to the Carolinas. During that time, she worked with students from fourth through twelfth grade. In addition to teaching string orchestra rehearsals, symphony orchestra rehearsals, small-group lessons and individual lessons, Jill also has experience directing small ensembles, including chamber orchestra and fiddle ensembles. In 2013, Jill became the co-founder of a new Summer Orchestra Camp for students in grades 5-12 in Madison County, NY. In 2016, Jill served as the Orchestra Conductor for the Madison County All-County Festival. She has also served as a solo festival adjudicator in a variety of solo and ensemble festivals. Over the years, Jill has performed in a wide variety of ensembles, including string orchestras, symphony orchestras, jazz bands and pit orchestras. Jill particularly enjoys teaching private lessons and getting the opportunity to provide an individualized experience for students to discover music and develop their musical skills!
