Get to know Jim Kasprzyk
James Kasprzyk, baritone saxophonist, is a founding member of the Chicago Saxophone Quartet and is recognized internationally as a pioneering baritone saxophone artist. His dedication to promoting the baritone saxophone and impact on the instrument and his students since 1960. Mr. Kasprzyk has been the anchor of the Chicago Saxophone Quartet for 50 years. Quartet and solo performances have included concerts in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Hong Kong, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, Canada, as well as the first World Saxophone Conference in 1969 in Chicago and others in London, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the USA. He has performed with many orchestras including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Grant Park Orchestra, Elgin Symphony, Northwest Indiana Symphony, as well as the Joffrey Ballet and Ringling Bros. Circus.
Mr. Kasprzyk hold both a Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees from Northwestern University. In addition to an expansive private teaching studio, he has served on the faculties of Northwestern University, DePaul University, and as Assistant Professor of Saxophone at Vandercook College in Chicago, teaching music theory and ear training as well as saxophone. A member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, Mr. Kasprzyk serve as the region 5 Director for 11 years. His transcriptions for baritone saxophone, saxophone quartets, and solo saxophone have gained widespread popularity in the saxophone pedagogy community.
