Joe Beribak
Joe Beribak
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Schaumburg, IL
Speaks: English
Instructs: Drums
Education: DePaul University-Bachelor of Music, The Colburn Conservatory-Artist’s Diploma
Performance Experience: I have performed in a wide variety of settings. My studies focused on orchestral percussion and contemporary chamber music. I have performed in under the batons of some of the world’s most prominent conductors, including Pierre Boulez, David Zinman, James Conlon, Gerard Scharz, and Sir Neville Marriner. In addition to my work with Smoke & Mirrors ensemble, I have per-formed with the celebrated percussion groups Red Fish, Blue Fish and LA Percussion Quartet
Teaching Experience: I began teaching in 2010 during graduate studies at the Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles. The Youth Orchestras of Los Angeles (YOLA) paired with the conservatory to match YOLA students with conservatory students. As part of Smoke & Mirrors Ensemble, I helped develop outreach presentations for grade school and high school students. Upon graduation, I returned to Elgin and grew to love teaching even more. I taught percussion ensemble and coached orchestral percussion with Elgin Youth Symphony.
Teaching Philosophy: I approach teaching any student with the assumption that he or she has an incredible musical voice inside just waiting to be released. This process of discovery unfolds through the discipline of dedicated listening and practice. By crafting quality interpretations of well-composed music, students learn to recognize the universal musical patterns that can serve them in all genres of mu-sic.
