Get to know Joe
A recent transplant to Durham, Joe Wilson is a passionate and dedicated musician and educator, with over a decade of professional experience in New York City, Houston, as well as international touring. He teaches woodwinds, specializing in saxophone, jazz and improv/composition/theory, and prides himself on customizing lessons to guide each student’s individual “artist’s journey”. Joe believes in learning to practice the fundamentals of music via deep study of songs that students already know and love.
As a bandleader, sideman, and as a soundtrack composer, Joe has created and released music in many genres to success on major streaming platforms. He has performed and had works featured in concert halls, clubs, festivals, cinemas, and theaters, including Lincoln Center, Cannes Film Festival, The Jazz Standard, and many others.
Joe received music and merit scholarships to attend NYU, where he studied film, music, and anthropology. Currently, Joe is pursuing a Masters degree in Jazz Studies at North Carolina Central University, where he studies with Dr. Ira Wiggins, Branford Marsalis, Joey Caldarazzo, Dr. Brian Horton, and more.
