Performance Experience: I’ve performed with several groups and ensembles including the A Sign of the Times Big Band, Orquestra Major, Bakalao Stars, and The Queen’s Court. I have also played with world-renowned musicians, Fred Wesley and Tyrone Jefferson, both of whom were former bandleaders for the late, great Godfather of Soul, James Brown. I was also a member and ultimately music director for Celebrity Cruises.
Teaching Experience: I have 6+ years of experience of being a band director for the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System and the Jackson School System (Jackson, Alabama). I have also taught music appreciation at Gaston College, Dallas, NC. I have over 25 years of teaching privately (all grade levels). I’ve also taught at numerous camps and masterclasses.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe that all students are capable of achievement if they are determined and even more so if they have the proper support. Let your student know not to lose focus and give up if they make a mistake and remind them that we all do. Once they correct themselves, with a supportive “cheering section,” and figure out the concept it’ll make that victory so powerful for them and boost their self-esteem!
