Teaching Philosophy: Education is about discovery. And music offers endless discovery of knowledge and self. I am happy teaching students how to find their unique and endless abundance at their own pace. I encourage students to exercise a balance of self-mastery, self-discipline, and self-worth. As musicians, vulnerability and confidence can be helpful skills in their learning journey when self-monitored correctly. Modeling what I preach, I encourage students to embrace, not avoid, those skills every practice.

      Get to know Jordan Gilliard

Hi! I am Jordan Gilliard, a longtime musician turned educator. My earliest piano and vocal lessons began in the year 2000, and these skills have always walked and grown with me throughout my life. Whether it has been singing solos in church, performing with a cappella groups, performing in piano recitals, or learning the piano chords to my favorite songs, I have learned how much music seeks to heal and captivate the human soul.

Since 2017, I have performed as an educator in public schools. Starting as a Substitute Teacher, I also worked in schools as a Classroom Facilitator, Interventionist, and Licensed English as a Second Language (ESOL) Teacher. At the College of William and Mary, I specialized in Education Policy, but I also graduated with a minor in Music. No matter the subject, my approach to education has always taken great joy in helping students overcome any gaps in learning and persistently encourage them through any intimidating targets.

As a student, you will be encouraged to be self-motivated. We will define and redefine your goals as you discover new potential paths of learning. I will ensure that you maintain proper technique and vocal health. As a teacher, I find it important to stay well-informed and updated with the contemporary practices of vocal and piano teaching with a balance of maintaining a foundation in the fundamental, best practices. For voice and piano, I am happy to teach Classical, R&B, Pop, Gospel, Folk, Broadway Theater, Rock, Alternative, and other requests.
