He played in: “The Mid-East All-Star Band” in Duquesne University (1965-1966), “The All Ohio Boys Band” at the Ohio State Fair (1966-1967); and the “School Band of America“ European tour (July/Aug 1968).
His High School and College Highlights include: backing Billy Joe Royal w/ The Epics; Opening for Gary Lewis and the Playboys & Bob James Crum at the Palace Theatre (Columbus, OH); opening for John Sebastian w/ Dynasty; and Sugarloaf w/ Dynasty; George Duke & Stanley Clarke w/ Bobby Floyd at the Agora (Columbus, OH); and Bill Cosby w/ Terry Bradshaw Band at the Heinz Hall (Pittsburgh, PA)
In one year he did a 106 show stint as the house band drummer on the live radio show “Jamboree, USA” at the Capitol theatre in Wheeling, WV opening for many country artists, including; Johnny Cash; Loretta Lynn; Hank Williams Jr; George Jones; Charley Rich; Tammy Wynette; Jerry Reed; and Merle Haggard. On this show I played with: Johnny Cash; June Carter; Crystal Gayle; Don Gibson; Freddie Fender; Terry Bradshaw; Elmer the Clown; and my favorite - The Wheeling, WV 40 Piece Senior Citizens’ Kazoo Orchestra!
Joseph Ong has toured with the Broadway production of “42nd Street’; performing at a lot of amazing venues, including: The Muni in St. Louis, MO - The Largest outdoor theatre in the world and performed for Queen Elizabeth the 2nd in Vancouver, BC. On the School Band of America tour we played at other great venues. Among them were; The Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria; The Casino in Baccarat, France; The Brewers hall in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia; and the Main Concert Hall at the BBC in London, England.
He was apart of the amazing faculty at Ohio State University Music Dept from 1990 to 2007. Currently Joseph Ong is teach at Music and Arts in Westerville & Hilliard, OH.
