      Teaching Philosophy: Our focus in lessons is to develop the tools necessary to play with musicality and purpose in all things. This is the first question - what skills do we need to develop on our instrument in order to be able to fully realize our musical potential? Lesson focus covers developing embouchure strength and flexibility, physical technique, phrasing/breath support control, and producing a fundamentally characteristic tone at all times.

      Get to know Joshua Grossnicklaus

      Mr. Joshua Grossnicklaus has been a trumpet player for over 25 years, and has been our brass instructor since 2020. Growing up in Florida, he began playing in his middle school band program and continued to pursue his love of playing through college. After attending Indian River State College and earning his Associates of Arts degree, Mr. Grossnicklaus began studies at Stetson University in 2004, earning his Bachelor's in Music Education degree with high honors in 2007. For the past 14 years, he has served as a band director at both the middle and high school level, currently serving as the Director of Bands at Wekiva High School in Apopka, Florida. In addition to playing his horns, Mr. Grossnicklaus enjoys spending time with his wife and son, and is an avid fan of ice hockey (Let's Go Blues!)
