Performance Experience: I've been involved with professional-level music ensembles since 2010 through school and community groups, and have also been a band and church keyboardist since 2008.
Teaching Experience: I've spent the last four years teaching private lessons in Iowa's Cedar Valley, mostly on voice to a variety of age ranges. I have also worked briefly with a colleague's high school choir on a few occasions.
Teaching Philosophy: I strive to develop my students' abilities from a growth-mindset; that is, although we will work toward a goal, I put more on an emphasis on measuring development and improvement over reaching a specific result. Developing musical skill is a wonderful journey, but one that takes time, so I aim to focus on growth and improvement of techniques, expression and appreciation over molding someone to be a certain way.
Get to know Judson
I am a graduate student at the University of Northern Colorado studying conducting and education. Prior to moving to Colorado I worked as a freelance composer and church musician in northeast Iowa, and outside of teaching I've conducted choral ensembles of varying sizes and skill levels, and I enjoy being involved in my community in a variety of ways. Outside of music I enjoy spending time with friends and family and exploring new areas. I'm looking forward to my time here at MAA and being a part of your musical journey!
