About Juliann Frances

Juliann Frances
Music Teacher, Professional
Location: Wayne, PA
Speaks: English
Instructs: Bass Guitar
Education: B.S in Music Industry & Recording Technology from York College of Pennsylvania. MBA with a focus in Music Business from Southern New Hampshire University in partnership with Berklee College of Music
Performance Experience: Professionally gigging and touring in major and minor east coast cities for seven years including Philadelphia, NYC, Harrisburg, New Haven, Brooklyn, Lancaster, Greenfield MA, and more.
Teaching Experience: I like to meet students where they're at and focus on their goals in music. Some students want to pursue music professionally, go for college auditions, and even start working in the field, while others just want to learn something for fun. Both goals are valid, but require a different approach. In general, I prefer that students learn to read traditional sheet music, chord charts (common in jazz and pop), and tablature. Then, I encourage them to work on ear training as well.
Teaching Philosophy: Bass guitar is a unique instrument in that it's much newer than other instruments, even the guitar, so it's less strict when it comes to technique. I focus on helping students find what works for them while ensuring their technique won't lead to injury. Additionally, based on their goals, students may choose to learn traditional finger picking, slap bass, pick-style, or more niche techniques with three-finger picking or reverse picking.
Get to know Juliann Frances
Juliann has been a musician from an early age, having gone to a performing and fine arts school 6-12th grade, and is now working on her professional career.
In high school Juliann was part of a Cavalcade award winning jazz band that even got to compete at the Apollo Theater in New York. Then, she went on to obtain her undergraduate degree where she gained a well rounded music education on topics like songwriting, music theory, performance, business and entrepreneurship, music law, music production, and more. She also participated in many ensembles like Jazz band, Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Groove Ensemble, and Rock Band where she was appointed band leader (a paid position). After undergrad, Juliann went on to obtain her MBA from Southern New Hampshire University with a focus in music business from Berklee College of Music. The program focused on modern business leadership skills and the modern music industry landscape. During this time, Juliann worked at an independent record label in Delaware County where she marketed professional artists, booked them gigs, and acquired PR opportunities for them. She also ramped up her bass career, booking as many shows with her band as possible, releasing an album that got online PR coverage, and even planning a north east tour. Juliann is now looking forward to sharing the love of bass with others all while gigging as much as possible.
