About Justin Robinson
Get to know Justin Robinson
Dr. Justin Robinson is Principal Trumpet of the Florence Symphony, an Adjunct Instructor of Brass at Benedict College, and Director of the Brass Ensemble at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. He completed his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance at the University of South Carolina, where he served as a Graduate Assistant for Music Theory and played principal trumpet in the USC Symphony Orchestra. In addition to a DMA in trumpet performance, Dr. Robinson also holds a doctoral minor in music theory, a master's in music performance, and a bachelor's in music education.
Before beginning his doctoral studies, Justin served as the Marching Band Director at Northwest Mississippi Community College. His responsibilities included directing the marching band, trumpet ensemble, horn ensemble, brass ensemble, assisting with the concert band, and teaching high brass lessons and music appreciation. Besides his academic roles, Justin arranged music and wrote drill for the Northwest Ranger Band. Justin has also taught a private studio of trumpet and brass students who regularly succeed in festivals, district, all-state, and college auditions. Before his position at Northwest, he served as the Head Middle School Band Director at Southaven Middle School, Trumpet Graduate Assistant at The Pennsylvania State University, and as a High Brass Instructor at Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps.
In addition to teaching, Justin regularly performs in ensembles and as a soloist. He has performed with the Florence Symphony, South Carolina Philharmonic, Augusta Symphony, and Tom Walker's Gospel Train Big Band, to name a few. He has been a featured soloist on the First Presbyterian Church Music Ministry's Video Recital Series, with the South Carolina Youth Symphonic Orchestra, and with the Northwest Mississippi Community College Wind Ensemble. Justin loves collaborating with colleagues and is particularly interested in performing in chamber ensembles featuring unique instrumentations.
Justin currently resides in Columbia, South Carolina, with his wonderful wife and three children.
