Get to know Katie Smith
Katherine (Katie) Smith is a versatile chamber, solo, and orchestral clarinetist. Based out of Cleveland, Ohio, Katie has been studying clarinet and piano for over 10 years. She has studied with a variety of notable clarinetists such as Jennifer Magistrelli, and Cleveland Orchestra Clarinetist Robert Woolfrey. As a performer, Katie has appeared with a variety of ensembles around the Cleveland area and is an alumnus of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra and the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony. Katie holds a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from The University of Cincinnati, CCM, where she was a student of several clarinetists from the Cincinnati Symphony including Ixi Chen, Ronald Aufmann, Christopher Pell. Katie is a current and active member of the Cincinnati Clarinet Consortium and Sigma Alpha Iota International Women’s Music Fraternity. Katie is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Clarinet Performance at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she will study under Cleveland Orchestra Clarinetist Afendi Yusuf. In addition to her time playing and teaching, Katie spends her time volunteering at Fieldstone Farm Therapeutic Riding Center, reading, and taking her old dog Maggie for golf cart rides.
