Performance Experience: Played with a host of wonderful musicians over the years from Aretha Franklin, Stanley Turrentine. Stanley Cowell and members of the Soulful Symphony. Loads of chamber music and full orchestra experience.
Teaching Experience: Nearly 25 years of public and private teaching in the Washington metropolitan area, specializing in violin and viola. Classically trained, but loves trying other genres too.
Teaching Philosophy: Developing your musical skills is like starting and tending a garden. In the beginning, there is a lot of work and little visible progress. But with consistency and focused attention, you will harvest a wonderful pastime that you can enjoy your entire life.
Get to know Kelly Scott Burgess
Kelly Scott Burgess is a veteran music string teacher with over nearly over four decades of paying experience and nearly 25 years of teaching experience. A native of Washington DC, Mr. Burgess has spent the last 23 year teaching in the Prince George's County school system. Mr. Burgess specializes in all string instruments, with his primary instrument being violin and viola. He specializes in the transition from middle school to high school from the young musician. He also loves working with adult learners who are coming back to the music after a long break or who are looking for a new challenge.
Mr Burgess uses the Suzuki String Method materials to supplement note reading and music theory lesson. His beginner books of choice are: Strictly Strings, Suzuki Bk1 and I can Read Music.
