About Kenny Drefke
Get to know Kenny Drefke
My music journey began when my parents enrolled me in piano lessons at the age of five, and I first performed professionally as a piano accompanist in junior high. During fifth grade I started on the clarinet, in eighth grade added the saxophone, and I began studying the flute in college. While in high school, I assisted my band director and taught clarinet and sax lessons for the summer lesson program. I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Iowa State University, and then enlisted in the United States Air Force Band Program. During my 24-year career, I performed on flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, all saxophones and keyboard. I was Non-commissioned Officer in Charge and Music Director for jazz big bands and combos, rock bands with horns and saxophone quartets. Other ensembles I played with included the concert band, ceremonial marching band, clarinet quartet and woodwind quintet. I have over 35 years of professional performance and education experience, to include five years teaching at the collegiate level. Additionally, I have been a featured soloist with university ensembles, community bands, jazz groups and performed with Broadway touring shows. I am passionate about helping students of all ages reach new heights and enjoy their musical journey!
