About Kerry Craig
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Middletown, DE
Instructs: Banjo, Cello, Guitar, Mandolin, Viola, Violin
Education: Music major at Colorado State University. I made a violin at age 15 under the supervision of award winning violin maker, Fred Craig. Later, I was privileged to study violin repair techniques with elite master violin maker William Moennig at Vanderbilts Blair School of Music.
Performance Experience: I toured the United States for several years. Our itinerary was tightly filled at major college and concert venues, also doing many opening shows for major artists. The band was also enlisted to create a sound track with Pulitzer Prize award winning political cartoonist Pat Oliphant on a short film he animated. For two years I was a touring band member with multiple CMA Entertainer of the year winner Hank Williams Jr. including numerous appearances on NPR, television and the movie industry.
Teaching Experience: I've been teaching over 19 years running at Middletown Music and its current owner Music and Arts. On the orchestra side, many of my students have been concert masters at area high schools as well as holding comparable positions in the surrounding schools. I have also helped a number of students prepare for All State as well. On the traditional side, I have conducted numerous successful fiddle camps at Music and Arts, a number of area Bluegrass Festival workshops.
Teaching Philosophy: My own experience in music has been diverse and eclectic. I encourge my students to explore that richness, have fun, and play what inspires them. I want their experience to be as beneficial and fruitful as possible. So remember: "I am not the boss. We are the boss." It is a shared journey. Are you ready?
