Teaching Philosophy: I draw on the work of Maslow, Vygotsky, Piaget, Bruner, Csikszentmihalyi, Dalcroze, and Suzuki in my teaching, and focus on age appropriate, inclusive, differentiated instruction that caters to all learning styles, with an emphasis on movement and music literacy. My goal as an educator is to allow my students to both flourish as musicians and thinkers, and to get the maximum enjoyment out of music.
Get to know Kevin Covney
Kevin Covney is a classical guitarist and music educator based in Greenwich, CT. In his teaching, Kevin focuses on a compassionate, equitable, and student-centered teaching approach, which helps learners of all types achieve their musical goals.
As a performer, he has collaborated in Upstate New York with groups such as the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes and Opera Ithaca, and has also played in masterclasses for guitarists such as Ricardo Gallen and Grammy-Award winner Sharon Isbin. Kevin received his Bachelor of Music degree in music education from Ithaca College, and a Master of Music degree in guitar performance from The Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Grammy-Award winning guitarist Jason Vieaux.
