Performance Experience: I've been performing as long as I've been teaching, and that has given me valuable experience on how to teach music in a way that can be shared and enjoyed with others. I started playing rock and pop tunes for several bands early on, and have been performing gigs at bars, restaurants and backyard parties since I started. Eventually, I transitioned to performing classical guitar music as a soloist and as a part of the Inland Empire Guitar Quartet.
Teaching Experience: I've been a guitar instructor for over 8 years, going house to house and refining my curriculum. I've taught at several schools over the years including private schools, non-profits and music conservatories. Most recently, I've been teaching at Yamaha Music school for the past 2 years and have gained tons of experience teaching in groups and online.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe in differentiating teaching, in which every student has their own unique way of learning and a unique lesson plan to match. As a teacher, I enjoy incorporating engaging activities to fit the student's learning style. I like to start by teaching the simplest way to play music. From there, we can explore more complex ideas such as music theory, sight reading and performing. There are many positive skills that music can develop, and I believe anyone can/should learn to play an instrument!
