Get to know Larry Blewitt
As a Drum and Percussion instructor, Larry brings a wealth of 25+ years of technical and real world experience to every lesson. Larry is a 1991 graduate of the University of Alabama with a triple major in music performance, French language, and applied natural sciences. While at the University of Alabama, Larry was a 2 year member of the Million Dollar Marching Band on snare, and a 4 year member of the university’s prestigious A Jazz ensemble under legendary director Dr. Steve Sample Sr. He also studied 6 years of classical percussion under Dr. Larry Mathis as well as 15 years of private piano studies with Pam Gordon at the University of Alabama. Larry has also studied with Mark Lanter (UAB jazz band instructor) as well as master frame drummer Glenn Velez and legendary drummer Joe Morello of the Dave Brubeck Quartet in New York City.
Larry is a long time teacher and player of all styles of drum kit, to any other percussion instrument. He also plays piano, ukulele, and bass. And is also a 25 year veteran of working and teaching all facets of analog recording and digital music production. He is an Avid certified Pro Tools instructor.
Larry has a over 20 years experience teaching students of all ages from kids to adults from all walks of life and all experience levels. He is also a first call session player, producer, engineer, digital music consultant, film post audio mixer and sound designer. He is a producer and songwriter for Blue Green Submarine, a creative songwriting, original music creation and consulting company that writes music for licensing, documentary and feature films, as well as music for commercials and internet projects.
