Get to know Leanne H.
Leanne Hanson is a doctoral candidate at the University of Maryland, where she is a Graduate Assistant and Dean’s Fellow. Additionally, she is an active freelancer and professional musician in the greater DMV area and performs in numerous orchestra, band, chamber, and solo engagements. Leanne has subbed with notable professional organizations, such as the Baltimore Symphony, The Phoenix Symphony, Phoenix Opera, and Arizona Broadway theater.
As an educator, she maintains an active private studio of all ages, both in-person and online, and many of her students have participated in All-State honor bands/orchestras, youth orchestras and have gone on to attend major universities and conservatories across the country. She serves as a teaching artist for the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, the International School of Music, Musika and formerly taught at the Atlanta Music Project, Schwob School of Music Preparatory Division, and The Boston Arts Academy. Formerly, Leanne was a middle school music teacher where she taught band and ukulele classes in Phoenix, AZ for three years. Leanne’s primary teachers include Matthew Guildford of the National Symphony Orchestra, Douglas Yeo and Norman Bolter, both of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. She holds degrees from Arizona State University and The Boston Conservatory.
