Teaching Philosophy:
I believe it is important that my students be started with a foundation of solid technique, ear training and sense of steady rhythm. From here they should learn to read music for themselves, and be equipped with the tools they need to really experience the freedom of musical expression.
My style is influenced by Suzuki methods, and by my experience as a teacher of theatre; connecting with the student through the appropriate use of storytelling, creative analogies, and humorous demonstrations!
Get to know Lewis Bliss
Hey! My name is Lewis Bliss. I'm a DMV-based musician, actor, and teacher with a passion for inspiring in students a love for music, training them in the fundamentals they need to excel, and doing so in a way that gives them a greater sense of their own dignity and value. I began teaching music lessons when I was 16, and I currently teach at Evergreen Christian School in Leesburg, Storyteller Studio in Gainesville, and Regnum Lucis Theatre in Fairfax. I sing at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Annandale, write my own music (someday I hope to finish writing a full-length musical!), and I enjoy listening to bluegrass, Gregorian chant, Celtic music, and fascinating podcasts. I want to dedicate my whole life to serving my God with joy!
