Teaching Experience: Private lesson teacher since 2016, teaches all ages and all backgrounds. Has been a guest teacher and organizer for the University of Louisville Bass Day, University of Louisville High School String Day, University of Louisville Middle School String Day, and the Kentuckiana Online Bass Workshop.
Teaching Philosophy: Lessons are a collaborative experience between student and teacher. I want to know when something works and when it doesn't so that we can find the best solutions together. I want to offer everything I can to help students succeed at their goals, including outside opportunities to meet other bassists, performance opportunities, and external goals to keep motivation up. Learning an instrument should be a challenging, rewarding, and enjoyable experience.

Get to know Maria Gramelspacher

Maria Gramelspacher is a double bassist and teacher from Nashville, Tennessee. Maria has recently earned her Master’s degree in String Pedagogy from the University of Louisville studying with Sidney King. She completed her undergraduate studies in music performance at Middle Tennessee State University studying with Tim Pearson.

Maria has performed with Orchestra Kentucky, Owensboro Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony, Murfreesboro Symphony, and the Nashville Concerto Orchestra, as well as several other ensembles in the area. She has also had experience as a soloist, making finals in the Middle Tennessee State University Solo Artist Competition. Maria has a love for chamber music and has played in a variety of ensembles but has a great love for bass ensembles. She has done several arrangements for bass ensemble for a variety of skill levels that have been performed by professionals and students alike.

As a teacher, Maria encourages her students to become curious, self-sufficient, and well-rounded musicians. Her students have had great success with All State and All District auditions, and some have gone on to perform successfully in college auditions. Maria has been a guest artist and teacher for a few online programs in the past year and continues to connect her students with other bassists in Kentucky and across the country.
