Get to know Mary Owen
Mary Kaye Owen maintains an independent piano studio in Renton, Washington. Her piano
students have participated in many events sponsored by local chapters of Music Teachers
National Association, National Federation of Music Clubs, National Guild of Piano Teachers, and
WMEA's Solo/Ensemble program. An Honorary Life Member and past president of Washington
State Music Teachers Association, Mary Kaye was named an MTNA Foundation Fellow in 2018.
Currently the MTNA Northwest Division Performance Competitions Chair, as well as Senior High
Coordinator for the WSMTA MTNA Performance Competitions, she is a Nationally Certified
Teacher of Music, specializing in Piano. Mary Kaye earned a Bachelor of Sacred Music Degree
from Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon, and holds a Master of Arts Degree in Music
Education from the University of Washington. In addition to teaching piano privately (in her
studio and at Kent Music & Arts) and substitute teaching K-12 in the Renton School District,
Mary Kaye is Pianist for Living Word Lutheran Church in Graham, Washington. She and her
husband, Dan, have two grown sons (Thommy and Titus) and two alley cats (Mr. Bigglesworth,
and Number Two).
