Education: Undergraduate degrees in Music Education and Political Science In Appleton, WI. Graduate work in conducting, piano and vocal pedagogy, and certification in teaching the Adult Piano Student at Westminster Choir College, Princeton NJ (Rider University) Also certified in Kindermusik (group classes ages 6 months-5)
Member of MTNA, NFMC, NJFMC, and MENC.
Performance Experience: performed in jazz trios, and Broadway and opera performances. Also Conducted choirs and performed on tours in Austria, German, Itlay and Spain. Since 2008 my main gear/interest has been focused on teaching private piano and vocal study.
Teaching Experience: Studio teaching since 1993, and now full time private and group lesson teaching since 2008. lessons both in person and virtually. Youngest student 4, eldest 92 (of those who offered their ages)
Teaching Philosophy: Music lessons are a gift that lasts a lifetime(even past soccer). I love Education, Music, and People and I am so fortunate to have a career that encompasses that trifecta. And, everyone can learn to sing and/or play an instrument, do not let anyone, including yourself tell you that you cannot. We can learn that together if you have doubts! P.S. I just started cello lessons, great for a teacher to be a student.

My name is Mary Whelan and my full time career is teaching piano and voice lessons, mostly private lessons, and at times groups meet virtually for special workshops and performances.
I strive to be a teacher of passion, understanding and communication. With a simple goal of students enjoying music and realizing how wonderful it is to communicate through music via playing, composing,and improvising ..
No two lessons are alike , creativity and humor also involved. My interests besides music include traveling, rescuing dogs, and the art of conversation.
