Education: Matt holds a bachelor's degree in music composition from the University of Baltimore County Maryland. He is currently completing his master's degree in music composition at Towson University where he also works as the music theory graduate teaching assistant.
Performance Experience: Matt has over ten years of performance experience in a variety of genres including classical and jazz. He has played as a soloist, in chamber groups, and orchestral ensembles throughout Maryland.
Teaching Experience: Matt has experience successfully teaching students of all ages: whether you are an adult looking to learn how to read music and play your favorite songs or you have a child who wants to take their first step in learning an instrument, Matt is excited to help guide your musical journey!
Teaching Philosophy: As a composer, Matt finds that encouraging students of all levels to engage in the craft of writing music has tremendous value for those who wish to understand music better. In addition to being a deeply meaningful form of expression, composing requires students to become very familiar with the building blocks of music which directly transfers to becoming a better performer.

Matt is fascinated by the range and depth of emotions, images, and ideas which can be created by combining pitches and sounds across time.  As an active composer, he has written music for solo instruments, chamber ensembles, and symphonic orchestras. Additionally, he has worked professionally as an arranger.  Matt also finds tremendous satisfaction in providing others with the tools and knowledge to express themselves through music.  As such, composing is a central part of his piano and saxophone teaching philosophy and he believes that students of all ages should engage in the art of music composition.
