Teaching Philosophy: I believe in empowering students to become flexible and adaptive performers who aren't afraid to tackle a challenge! I do this by focusing on the fundamentals of technique and sound production, which provide the foundation from which students can explore the literature and genres that most excite them.
Get to know Matt Heckman
I've been a musician for most of my life, from the time I started piano lessons with my aunt in elementary school. After joining the school band in fifth grade on trumpet, and ultimately the marching band in high school, I was hooked on brass performance and I've been working to deepen my skills and experience ever since. I have performing in, managing, and instructing ensembles for nearly two decades, including drum and bugle corps, small brass ensembles, and scholastic marching band and indoor percussion programs. I'm excited to continue to share my knowledge and experience with students at Music & Arts!
