About Matt Schmidt
Get to know Matt Schmidt
Hey, my name is Matt and I have been playing music since I was a little kid. Growing up in a very musical household I was exposed to all sorts of different music and I was surrounded by instruments. I started playing saxophone when I was about 9 years old and it quickly became a serious passion of mine. I graduated with a degree in music education from Western Connecticut State University, where I studied with the legendary saxophonist Jimmy Greene, the virtuosic bassoonist Gina Cuffari, and the incredible broadway pit musician Dave Noland. My time at Westconn began my journey of playing an assortment of different woodwind instruments in addition to saxophone such as flute, clarinet, recorder, and even bassoon. When I'm not playing or teaching music you can expect to find me outside playing sports, hiking, or reading a good sci-fi novel.
