He has appeared as a soloist with The Wheaton Municipal Band and was a finalist in numerous collegiate solo competitions. He has performed in approximately 15 US states and internationally in Valencia, Spain and the Charlevoix region of Quebec.
Since moving to Houston in 2016, Matthew has been teaching private lessons and performing as a freelance musician. Matthew is comfortable in nearly any music setting. Some of the groups he has played in since moving to Houston include: big bands, symphony orchestras, trad jazz, salsa, wedding bands, brass quintet, modern music, ska, brass band, and even a few parades.
In lessons, Matthew is committed to getting the best music out of each student. Students learn the basics of how to play a brass instrument, how to read music fluently, how to practice, how to listen and think critically, and hopefully how to become their own best teacher. Trombone is his primary instrument, but he is comfortable and experienced teaching trumpet, euphonium, and horn as well.
