About Nadine Silverman

Nadine Silverman is a composer-performer currently based in Highland Park, New Jersey. She is currently a multi-disciplinary graduate student at Rutgers University, where she is pursuing two master's degrees concurrently in music theory and clarinet performance. She completed her bachelor's degree in music theory and composition at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2019 with minors in music history and French. Nadine also performs with the Pennsylvania Chamber Winds and the Nimbus Clarinet Quartet.

As a composer, Nadine has been commissioned to write for the Voix de Femmes Clarinet Quartet, Fivemind Reeds, Pennsylvania Chamber Winds, Arcanum Flute Quartet, the West Chester University Low Brass Ensemble, the Albion College Symphonic Wind Ensemble, the Nimbus Clarinet Quartet, and several other individual performers.

Outside of school, Nadine teaches private lessons in clarinet, music theory, and composition at Music & Arts in Edison, NJ. During her undergraduate degree at WCU, she taught private clarinet lessons at Valotta Studios in Chester Springs, PA, and performed with the Main Line Symphony Orchestra. In the summer of 2020, Nadine began working as the Director of Research for the National Arts Diversity Integration Association (NADIA), a nonprofit dedicated to furthering equity in the arts. Nadine's work with NADIA parallels her master's thesis research on equity and accessibility in  music theory and clarinet pedagogy, which she will complete in 2023, and her research on Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's clarinet quintet, which she presented virtually at two graduate conferences in 2021. Her research parallels many of her performance ventures, in which she primarily focuses on playing the music of composers from underrepresented and marginalized communities.
