Get to know Nicholas Rhodes

I have been teaching with Music & Arts since June 2020. Over the course of my life, countless individuals have poured their time and energy into nurturing my love for music. It is important to me that I take what has been revealed to me and reinvest it into those seeking to learn. Equipping students of all ages so that they may continue in their pursuit of music. The majority of the relationships in my life are derived from music in one sense or another. Music has invited many individuals, through often unexpected circumstances, into my life, and through time, furnished a strong community around me spanning the globe. From travelling abroad, founding bands, and volunteering in the local community, music has been the constant through it all. While it may not be the end-all-be-all for everyone, I have witnessed it time and time again bring people together in ways everyday circumstances would not typically induce.

I believe learning should be enjoyable, because this increases engagement and practice at home, as well as tailoring each curriculum to the students to thus fit their individual needs and aspirations. My students will have a fundamental grounding in music theory (understanding how music works). After that, we will delve into techniques and studieconducive to the student's endeavors. In lessons, we will understand the concepts; unveiling the “how” and “why” in what we are learning, that it may be applied to various other works/pieces. With my beginners, we will go over basic music notation and where the notes fall on the neck of the guitar. Focusing on proper technique and reading, that we may progress into chordal/soloistic structuring.  With my more advanced players, we will spend more time on ear training, developing your own tone as a guitarist, and unlocking the full span of the guitar.

When my students leave, I want them to be able to sit in with other musicians comfortably, create their own music while utilizing varying techniques and styles, and most importantly, being able to teach others what they know. I want my students to be equipped that they may go and better the community around them! If you are interested in learning more or if you have any questions, please reach out by calling: 704-341-0000.
