Nick taught music education seminars for college students at UNC Chapel Hill, NC State, and Wake Forest. His teaching methodology was featured as a model for retention in Music and Arts newsletter Sound Teaching. That methodology uses the model of focusing on student success as a way of creating a safe and fun environment. By focusing on small goals and the feeling of success, while maintaining high standards and expectations, students find that playing becomes fun because feeling successful is fun. Focusing on games and rewards for young children is one approach, but allowing a young child to feel free and successful in their exploration of musical spaces can yield excellent results.
