Get to know Phoebe Leng
Hio Lam Leng was born and raised in Macau, she began learning the violin at the age of six.
She studied with Zhao Shen and Wang Hao of the Macao Orchestra. In 2008, Hio Lam won
the second prize of Elementary Violin Solo and in 2010, she won the second prize of
Advanced Violin Solo at the Young Musicians Competition in Macau. In addition to violin
solo, in 2010 & 2014, She won the second prize of Chamber Music at the Young
Musicians Competition in Macau. Hio Lam enrolled at the Peabody Institute of Johns
Hopkins University at which she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2020 and her
Master’s degree in Music Performance in 2022 under the guidance of Keng-Yuen
Tseng, a reputable violinist and educator. At Peabody Institute, she received the
commencement prize - J.C. Van Hulsteyn Award in Violin in 2020 & 2022. In addition to
performing as a violinist, Hio Lam also has an immense passion for teaching. She highly
values the individuality and potential of each student and therefore capable of being
observant and adaptable in her teaching method. In her lessons, she strives to create a
fun and engaging environment to motivate her students in reaching their goals.
