About Prescilla Chang
Get to know Prescilla Chang
Educator for over 30 years. Her teaching experience began at seven years old teaching her family's Filipino style of stick fighting called "Dalisay Arnis". Her love of teaching branched from martial arts and into music. Prescilla began playing the violin in 4th grade after receiving her grandfather's violin. The violin became a connection between her (who did not speak Tagalog) and her grandfather (who did not speak English). Naturally inquisitive, she was encouraged to use music in various ways that could connect not only people but to emotionally, mentally, and physically connect with everything. Prescilla received her BMus from the University of Georgia in both Music Education and Music Therapy. Following graduation, she received certification to teach Book 1-Book 4 in the Suzuki Method and worked as an orchestra teacher in Gwinnett County and Cobb County School systems. Prescilla taught 11 years of private lessons with students as young as 4 to 65. For the past 17 years, she directed the Lower School Orchestra program (4th-6th grade) at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, Georgia. Her musical collaborations include performing with Macon Symphony, Axam Dance Theater Experience sponsored by Habitat For Humanity, and St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She is currently pursuing her Master's in Music Education from Rutger's University and looks forward to discovering new ways to connect through music!
