About Ray Blakeley

Ray Blakeley
Ray Blakeley
Music Teacher, Master
Location: Savannah, GA
Speaks: English
Instructs: Bass Guitar, Guitar
Education: Freelance Musician.
Performance Experience: Originally I enjoyed playing with my students, and they were my only source of playing accompaniment. I played lead guitar for Bethel AME in Hinesville, Ga for 3 years, and as of late I perform locally in the Savannah area with my jazz fusion trio Protosoul.
Teaching Experience: I have taught virtually and in person for 13 years. I specialize in fingerstyle guitar with an emphasis on jazz and blues in chord melody styles. I am also an accomplished pick-style guitarist with an emphasis on rock guitar techniques.
Teaching Philosophy: I believe very strongly in personally tailored lessons. What may interest and prove very helpful may bore and detriment another. I learned to play guitar initially by teaching myself, and only later could begin to grasp musical concepts and why harmony and melody interacted, and I very much enjoy teaching that in addition to the physical process.

Get to know Ray Blakeley

I began playing guitar at the age of 16 by accident. My sister purchased a very cheap guitar and instead of her learning to play it, I did. This began a lifelong journey of discovering the why music works and operates in the way that moves you. Through many years of practice and discovery and working in several different idioms I have amassed a way of teaching that can apply to anyone who truly wishes to learn. I get a lot of joy out of helping others through things I have struggled with, and I am glad you are here today.
