About Rhonda Latham
Get to know Rhonda Latham
Rhonda Cox Latham is a classically trained pianist with over 30 years teaching experience. She is one of the few people you will ever meet who knew as a child what they wanted when they grew up and then exactly achieved it. She only ever dreamed of being a music teacher, a wife, and a mother and after graduating from The University of Texas with a degree in Music Education – she achieved all of those dreams.
After 14 years in the public school system, she traded that to homeschool her own children. Though she was not their primary music teacher, she was always there to help them as they progressed on their own musical journeys.
Ultimately both of her children received degrees in Music from major universities. Her daughter, Mollie, graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas A&M with degrees in both Music and Psychology, then went on to get her Masters in Social Work at The University of Houston. Her son, Denton, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music in Boston with a Bachelors in Contemporary Writing and Production.
Needless to say, when it comes to teaching music, Mrs. Rhonda has some chops.
After being trained classically for 15 years and helping her daughter do the same for 12 years, her son learned to play by ear. Through him, Mrs. Rhonda has been inspired to seek out alternative educational methods that allow the student to partner with her in making a plan that is unique to them. Learning to play chords and from lead sheets is one way that the student can begin to play successfully from the very beginning. and she knows there are few things more gratifying than being able to ‘play something’ on the spot when asked.
