Get to know Sam Mcclurg
Sam McClurg is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music and an incredibly talented jazz drummer with a diverse range of experiences in performance and education. Sam has been fortunate to perform alongside renowned jazz artists such as Danilo Perez, John Patitucci, Andre Hayward, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and Aaron Janik. His musical journey has taken him to exciting places, including performances in China, Morocco, and the United States, where he collaborated with fusion artists like Ishaan Ghosh, Shivaraj Natraj, Mehrpouya Daneshvar, and Adil Hanine.
In addition to his performances, Sam is passionate about teaching. He has a wealth of experience as a private percussion teacher, where he has guided students in jazz, Latin, R&B, funk, rock, and world music rhythms. He specializes in drum set, concert percussion, and percussive techniques from various global traditions, including the Caribbean, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and India. Sam’s lessons are tailored to each student’s unique needs, focusing on musicality, technique, reading, and the understanding of music as a language.
Sam has also worked as a drumline instructor at Benton County and West Lafayette High Schools, where he wrote and directed drumline music and techniques, and served as a band camp percussion instructor. He will begin working as an accompanist at MIT in 2024, further expanding his role as an educator and performer.
With a passion for both performance and teaching, Sam is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and inspiring the next generation of musicians.
