Get to know Saundra Lockwood
Music has been a core to Saundra Pittman-Lockwood her entire life. She doesn’t remember a
time when she was not actively involved in music performances. Her focus was and continues
to be Christian music. She obtained her Bachelor of Music Education from Mississippi Southern
University and Master’s in Business Administration form the University of Central Michigan. She
taught Elementary School Music and her High School Choirs received numerous awards at
Georgia State competitions. While living in Germany she had the opportunity to study voice
under Herr Eltesta and accompany the Pruem Germany Community Choir. While there she
began playing the organ for Military Chapels and stayed involved with chapel music until she
retired from her DODAF Civil Service career. She kept music in the forefront of the recreational
programs. She coached performances of AF World Wide award winning performances.
Throughout her career she maintained a private music studio where she taught piano and voice.
Her students ranged in age from 6 to 70 years of age. She never stopped being involved with
Chapel and church music programs serving as either Director of Music, Choir Director or
accompanist. Her work covered a broad scope from singing and playing classical to playing
keys in a Canadian Snowbird Country Western band. Always stopping to take advantage of
teachable moments as they arose.
Her teaching philosophy is simply, “Music should be fun.” Is it challenging? Yes, but always,
always should be fun. She is ready to help beginner through advanced students progress even
further.
In November 2020, she closed her Music Studio in Georgetown, TX to move back home to
MIssissippi.
Saundra’s music career has been eclectic, but what a fun ride. Her areas of expertise are
staging performances, hymn improvisations, My greatest joy is seeing others excel.
