Get to know Sawyer Gray

Sawyer is a music producer and guitarist from Starkville Mississippi. His earliest memories of playing guitar include playing along to The Beatles, Funkadelic, and Mississippi delta blues greats (Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, and Howling Wolf who was born the next town over from Starkville, West Point), as well as singing and playing old folk songs with his dad. He moved to Atlanta in 2018 and graduated from Emory in 2022 with a BA in music. There, Sawyer was exposed to music of all different cultures and conceptualizations. He performed with the Emory jazz combos under the tutelage of Gary Motley and Michael Cruse, and composed new music guided by professors Adam Mirza and Katherine Young. He has a fundamental love of music and believes in its power to teach important life lessons about self-determination, patience, and emotional expression. He is also so excited to begin new journeys with each student and help them find their musical voice!
