Teaching Philosophy: As a music teacher I love to see where my students are at musically, find what they are looking to do from there, then tailor each lesson toward those goals. It's always fun and learning always occurs whether the student is aware of it or not. I want my students to feel capable of teaching their own students at some point. And it's not merely learning how to finger or play an instrument with me, it's about learning how music is made and communicating through it.

      Get to know Scott Howarth

I am a 20+ year musician with a musical pulse of performance, teaching, arranging and composition. From the age of 6 I loved music, acquired a beginner guitar that I couldn't play but looked cool trying. In grade school I began learning saxophone and fell in love with trying to make it play jazz and songs I heard on the radio. In Junior High guitar and bass became part of my tools along with arranging with our piano. By end of high school I had written a jazz piece for our band as well as 2 marching band pieces. I attended Drake University where I learned more classical stylings as well as how to play other instruments including oboe, trombone and more. It was there that I began teaching students and haven't stopped. That was over 20 years ago. I love music, sharing it and seeing musicians come alive with new understanding of how to play and how to communicate musically. I have performed in a number of venues and also worked as Worship Pastor in 2 separate churches for 10 years. I'd like to see you become the musician you never thought you could be!
