About Scott Voorhees

Get to know Scott Voorhees
Scott began playing guitar at the age of 15. While originally inspired to become a musician after attending his first concert (Elton John), with no piano in the house, it was the Leo Kottke album “My Feet Are Smiling” that inspired him to take up guitar instead. After a few years of study with Peabody-trained guitarist Steven Herron in Annapolis, Scott continued studying the instrument on his own, eventually attending Towson State University, focusing on classical technique and music theory. The best way to describe his playing style is “acoustic finger-style”, incorporating the techniques of Kottke, Tommy Emmanuel, Jorma Kaukonen, Chet Atkins, Richard Thompson, Ralph Towner, and a great many more.In addition, Scott has performed around the Annapolis area for 40 years, first in his bands Loose Lips and Amnesia, then as a solo guitar & vocal act, followed by a 33 year (and counting) tenure as lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist in the popular Annapolis-area band The Music Room, and more recently with vocalist Jennifer Marie in the guitar & vocal duo Gitz & Shiggles.
