Get to know Sean Dillman
Sean Dillman is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist in the Rochester, New York area.
A former lead guitarist for Boston bands The Lost Pilots and Cold Coffee, he has three full-length solo albums, and has performed live from Portland ME to Los Angeles.
As a guitarist, he uses a number of alternate tunings, fingersyle, flatpicking and slide techniques in his interpretation of old country, jazz, and blues tunes, and in his own music, which goes from acoustic rock and jazz to alternative to 1970s’-style Album-Oriented Rock (AOR).
As a songwriter, he has recently written for mandolin, synthesizer, saxophone quartet, jazz combo and percussion ensemble, as well as all of the material for his last two albums (and most of the material for his first). He also frequently incorporates field recordings and other elements of sound design into his music.
He has been teaching guitar since 2004, has taught Sound Recording at the college level, and is currently pursuing a MFA degree in Music Composition.
Sean plays bass guitar with the Rochester Mandolin Orchestra, and metallaphone with the Eastman Gamelan Ensemble.
