About Skylar Llewelyn

Get to know Skylar Llewelyn
Skylar Llewelyn is an instructor dedicated to fostering a love and passion for music, with 6 years of teaching experience. They attended Pacific Lutheran University for an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Performing arts, with an emphasis in Vocal Performance. They are working towards their Masters in Elementary Education. They believe in building a strong musical foundation based on the fundamentals, then expanding based on a student's interests. Music does not start and stop at the instrument. Your entire body works together to function as a strong base for beautiful, communicative playing.
At age 6, they started as the Assistant to the Choir Director (their mother). They picked up a saxophone for fifth grade band and didn't put it down until college. They've also dabbled in several other instruments, primarily most of the woodwind family and some strings. While in college, they taught in a theatre/musical theatre program for students aged 6-18 to learn about proper vocal health and singing, performance, and ensemble. They've played in hard rock bands, jazz bands, symphonic orchestras, concert bands, and small ensembles. Currently, they are a music tutor with an elementary band in the Lake Washington School District.
Outside of their teaching life, they find joy in visual art, video games, watching "slime tutorials" of musicals, and their cat, Eurydice. They are also in the non-profit world, working with a local Chorale.
