About Stasia Kulsa

Get to know Stasia Kulsa
Music has been an
important part of my life. In elementary school, I sang in choir and played in
the bell choir and tone chime groups. I began playing the flute in sixth grade.
In eighth grade, I began to take private lessons and I began to play the
piccolo. I began to play in the jazz band on bari sax during my sophomore year
of high school. Throughout high school, I was a member of the Puget Sound Youth
Wind Ensemble and all of my school ensembles. I also participated in music
camps, solo and ensemble competitions, and the pit orchestra at my school. I
remained active in as many ensembles as possible while in college where I
participated in the wind ensemble, orchestra, symphonic band, flute choir, big
band, Latin jazz ensemble, and community bands in both Pullman, Washington and
Moscow, Idaho. I participated in MusicFest Northwest, the MTNA Young Artist
Competition, the Washington Idaho Symphony Young Artist Competition, the Lionel
Hampton Jazz Festival, and the WSU concerto competition. I was a national
finalist for MTNA in 2022 and a finalist for the Washington Idaho Symphony in
2020. In 2019, I traveled to Italy for the InterHarmony International Music
Festival. In 2021, I began a virtual flute duet, Lost Things, with a fellow-alumni from Washington State University.
