Performance Experience: "I perform professionally and frequently on trombone as a soloist, as well as in orchestral, wind ensemble, chamber, jazz, and pop/rock groups. I have performed professionally on baritone and tuba in classical ensembles and for pit orchestras. I have performed with students for formal and informal performances on trumpet and french horn. I also perform in marching band and pep bands on trombone and baritone."
Teaching Experience: "I have been teaching private and small group lessons since 2014, starting primarily with low brass students and expanding into high brass and theory in later years. I have started beginners on their instrument from as young as 8 years old up to college students pursuing a secondary instrument. I have taught music theory beginning with reading sheet music for the first time up to tutoring college music majors in Music Theory and Aural Skills classes. I teach classical, jazz, pop and solo music."
Teaching Philosophy: "I believe that music should be something that anyone can pursue and get better at from any age or level. My goal is to make music as accessible as possible for as many people as possible by using a student-led approach to my teaching. While I have many materials of my own that I use and can recommend for students, I always do my best to meet my students where they are at and work with any materials that they already have, especially when first starting out."

Get to know Stef Haas

Stef Haas (he/they) is in his fifth and final year as a Music Education major at Rutgers University where he primarily studies trombone. He is currently student teaching at Brookside Middle School in Allendale, NJ and has taught with the Ridgewood Summer Music Academy in individual, small group, and band lessons since 2014. Stef frequently performs professionally in solo, classical, musical theater, jazz, chamber, pop, and marching settings on trombone. They also perform informally and with students on all brass instruments and vocally in and out of school.

Stef is a member of leadership with the Rutgers Rainbow Symphony and an Rutgers Chapter of Mu Beta Psi - National Honorary Music Fraternity. Outside of music, Stef enjoys baking, rock climbing, and creating crafts.
