Get to know Toni Mcguire
I'm Toni McGuire. I teach Violin and Viola for the Alexandria store of Music and Arts. Continue or start your violin or viola journey with me. My students get a firm foundation in the basics of music theory to start with and together we focus on making the very best sound the student can make.
What makes me different is I teach using my spiral method. This is a mix of incremental learning of new skills with a good amount of review. Students young and old thrive with this method as they gain confidence in their playing abilities. Students are taught from where they are. I don't reinvent what you already know, but we, together unlock the mysteries of more skills. If you are new to music study, you will get the best start possible in music.
Toni has been playing music since the age of 4. When she taught herself to play piano on a toy keyboard her mother gave her. She started playing the violin at 8. Toni's love of teaching has brought her here to teach for Music and Arts. She brings her love of composition with her too, and often writes music for her students. She feels that knowing how different instruments work is how you are able to write challenging music for different instruments in chamber and orchestral works.
In order for children and adults to be happy, successful and well-rounded adults, I believe the discipline of learning a musical instrument is necessary. Music study is proven to increase cognitive abilities in school, it is relaxing and a boost to the self-esteem. Many hours during this pandemic I have and still rely on playing music to calm and restore me.
I've taught music in America and in China for over 30 years. Everywhere people can benefit from private one-on-one lessons. No matter your age, music brightens your world, increases creativity and enhances life.
