About Tyler

Get to know Tyler
Tyler Zapata is a 21 year old musician and trumpet player from Long Island, New York. He will receive his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam where he is also certified in Performance. At Crane, Tyler was a flexible and active performer who played in Wind Ensemble, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Ensembles, Latin Ensemble, Trumpet Ensemble, Pit Orchestra, Brass Quintets, etc. Tyler was a quarterfinalist in the 2022 National Trumpet Competition in the Large Trumpet Ensemble division. On Long Island, Tyler has played with the Smithtown and Riverhead community bands and currently plays with the Long Island Sound Symphony. Tyler has performed in venues such as Kodak Hall at Eastman Theater, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kresge Auditorium, and Carnegie Hall. He has experience teaching private lessons since 2016 and has led intermediate brass sectionals at the Interlochen Arts Camp. As an educator, Tyler values versatility of musicianship and believes that every musical experience we encounter will influence and shape our performer voice.
