Get to know Ukiah Odom
Ukiah has taught for over 30 years and is proud to have former students who have become successful professionals. He began drum lessons in the 2nd grade and later started guitar continuing into high school and college. In 1973 he enrolled in Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco, where he studied electric bass, drums and guitar along with music theory and business. After playing with several music groups in the Bay Area Ukiah moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. There he developed a love for ukulele and Hawaiian "slack key" guitar styles, while teaching and performing. While in Hawaii he performed and recorded with a country-bluegrass group, The Rock Island Band as well as in the pit for musical theater productions. He recorded an original project with Dragonflower - "The May Project", while also playing drums with jazz quartet, The Brotherhood. Since moving to Arizona he has taught music groups with "Champions of Rock" along with teaching private lessons in guitar, bass, drums and ukulele. Ukiah can be heard performing with classical guitar duo, Art of Music and Americana trio, The Sand Pigeons.
