      Performance Experience: Ukiah has enjoyed performing through the years a wide variety of styles from bluegrass to reggae, Latin, classical and rock. He has performed with musical theater shows at Southwest Shakespeare Company, TheaterWorks and Fountain Hills Community Theater. For the past 20 years he has performed and recorded with classical guitar duo, Art of Music, rock group, The Ukiah Band and Americana trio, The Sand Pigeons.
      Teaching Experience: Private and group lessons for over 30 years. Ukiah taught from 2001 through 2008 with Fountain Hills Music Works; teaching multiple instruments and student ensembles. In 2009-2010 Ukiah taught performing groups with Champions of Rock and the Boys and Girls Club. In recent years he given private instruction in guitar, electric bass, ukulele and dulcimer at Music & Arts.
      Teaching Philosophy: Ukiah enjoys sharing his love of music with all ages. He believes in learning not just what to play but HOW to play, emphasizing technique and music literacy. He uses instructional books along with personalizing to make playing fun. For those interested in performing he encourages recitals and developing self-confidence.

      Get to know Ukiah Odom

      Ukiah has taught for over 30 years and is proud to have former students who have become successful professionals. He began drum lessons in the 2nd grade and later started guitar continuing into high school and college. In 1973 he enrolled in Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco, where he studied electric bass, drums and guitar along with music theory and business. After playing with several music groups in the Bay Area Ukiah moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. There he developed a love for ukulele and Hawaiian "slack key" guitar styles, while teaching and performing. While in Hawaii he performed  and recorded with a country-bluegrass group, The Rock Island Band as well as in the pit for musical theater productions. He recorded an original project with Dragonflower - "The May Project", while also playing drums with jazz quartet, The Brotherhood. Since moving to Arizona he has taught music groups with "Champions of Rock" along with teaching private lessons in guitar, bass, drums and ukulele. Ukiah can be heard performing with classical guitar duo, Art of Music and Americana trio, The Sand Pigeons.
