About Tori Delgado
Get to know Tori Delgado
An evocative performer and multifaceted pedagogue, soprano Tori Delgado (they/them) has brought exemplary dimension to the modern musician. Praised for their “razor sharp ear” by mentors and coaches as well as their “luscious voice” and “intimate artistry” by audience members, Tori has showcased their range in a wide variety of musical genres including classical, jazz, musical theater, and contemporary commercial music.
Beginning with a focus on English-language operatic works, Tori has performed captivating lead roles, such as Mabel in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance and Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone. With a deepening interest in comedic roles, Tori also performed as Julie in Sigmund Romberg’ The New Moon.
Tori transcends traditional music pedagogy by incorporating musical literacy, composition, theory, history, and their experience on a variety of instruments into their private lessons. After coming out as gender nonbinary in 2021, they realized the need for LGBTQ+ classical voice students to have music available which not only reflects their experiences but is also singable for their respective levels of training and experience.
Tori has recently been awarded the Peabody Launch Grant from Johns Hopkins University for the creation of The Queer Songbook Project. Tori is currently collaborating with fellow LGBTQ+ musicians to promote inclusion and acceptance of one another in such a traditional field (on and off the stage) by creating music that does so in a youth-friendly way.
Tori completed their Master’s degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University under the tutelage of baritone William Sharp. They completed their Bachelor’s Degree in Classical Vocal Performance at Towson University. When not performing, Tori can be found composing, songwriting, practicing/learning other instruments, or reading about opera singers of the past.
