Performance Experience: I have been performing professionally since college including, Weddings, Religious Services, Funerals, Pit Orchestras, small ensembles and traveling bands. My playing can be heard on many recordings by various artists.
Teaching Experience: I have been teaching students through private lessons since 1984
Teaching Philosophy: My teaching philosophy is to be Methodical in Your Practice so You can be Creative in Your Performance. All practice should be fun yet also focused towards reaching desired goals.

Russ has received his Bachelor’s in Music Education from Winthrop University alongside his Masters in Trumpet Performance from UNCG.
“Teaching music has been a passion of mine for a long time. My teaching style is reflective of my quote- ‘methodical, yet creative.’ I don't believe that there is one true correct method of playing the trumpet. I teach the generally-accepted basics, but beyond that I encourage my students to develop a style unique to them. I teach how to achieve a full, rich, expressive sound in any register. Furthermore, how to take that rich sound and apply it to a variety of genres and styles from solo music to ensembles, to playing lead in a big band.” -Russ
