It’s Spooky Season! Vampires, and Werewolves, and Skeletons, Oh My!
It is also time for Open Mic Night to get started again! This October we are bringing it back with a bang here at the North Frederick location of Music and Arts on Friday, OCTOBER 18 from 6 to 8 pm!
We took a short break due to back to school season, but we are bringing it back better than ever! We will be hosting a Costume Contest! Performances are not going to be judged, only costumes! We are committed to providing a welcoming and supportive environment for all performers—the performance is the fun part! The Costume Contest is open to all, you do not have to perform in order to participate. Judging on costumes will be anonymous, and there will be prizes for various categories, so show us your spooky looks!
We will also be highlighting the studios of our very own Mike Haverty! Mike has been part of the Music and Arts family for 11 years and teaches at multiple store locations. Mike teaches guitar, ukulele, and bass guitar six days a week at the North Frederick, South Frederick, and Hagerstown locations. Mike has been one of our most enthusiastic supporters of Open Mic events, saying that he is always looking for performance opportunities for his students! Last year alone he organized 9 recitals for the students in his studios!
Mr. Haverty is passionate not just about passing along a love of music, but an understanding of what it takes to be good at anything you love in life: practice! Mike takes all students, from the young to the old, and makes music accessible and fun no matter what skill level or interest level a student may have. In the words of the man himself, “I shred, therefore I am.”
Dad jokes aside, Mike has his B.A. from St. Mary's College and studied Jazz at Montgomery College with Walter Johns. He has over two decades of performance and teaching experience. Mike teaches all musical styles with an emphasis on music fundamentals, reading, and music theory. For inquiries on joining Mike’s studios for lessons, any of our store associates would be able to assist in signing students up.
We have some awesome plans for a spooky-fun evening and we are looking forward to the outpouring of students from Mr. Haverty’s studios! Don’t forget to wear your favorite costume!
