Where did the summer go? It seems like it was only yesterday we were asking our lesson students about their potential vacation plans, and then we blinked and July was winding down. As we get ready to flip the calender page to August, it can mean only one thing. That's right: Back-to-school season is upon us, accompanied by all the usual bussel and anticipation. Children are mining their waning, precious days of unfettered freedom for every last ounce of fun. Parents, in the meanwhile, are strategizing like seasoned tacticians. "What does this year's litany of required supplies entail?" "Where and how can we acquire said items as efficiently as possible?" "How are we going to shuttle three kids to eight different activities every week and still maintain something close to sanity?" Here at Music and Arts, we want to let you know that if your returning students include any musically inclined individuals, we can make one part of that back-to-school shopping list a snap.
This year, like every year, a new class of children will be entering 6th or 7th grade, and for many, that will mean their first year of school band or orchestra. If your child is among these, we're here to assist you in any way we can. So, they come home with a list from the band or orchestra director, and it looks like any other school supply list, only it's, well ... strange. I mean, you know where to get a pencil or a three-ring binder is, but where do you find a metronome? For that matter, what IS a metronome? And a "Standard Of Excellence Book 1"? You're pretty sure you can't find that at the library or a Barnes and Noble. But fear not!!! This is what we're here for! Your child will need to rent an instrument, and they'll need the other required supplies, and you can get them all right here! Better still, you'll be dealing with experts who will not just provide you with a clarinet or trumpet or violin, but with precisely the instrument you need. Because we work diligently and as closely as possible with local schools, we know the preferred instrument brands, textbooks, and accessories for each program, so we're able to assist you both quickly and correctly. Put simply, we're a one-stop resource for anything and everything musical, and we take pride in being the best in the country at it.
On a more personal note, this is our favorite time of year, partly because it means we can look forward to the end of another sweltering Georgia summer, but mostly because for us, there will be no bigger rush. And when I say "rush", I'm referring not to how busy we'll be, but to the sense of exhiliration that will be everpresent in our store over the next few months. Ask any musician, and they can tell you when and where they got their first instrument. The memory of that moment, the joy and thrill of holding something that can create beautiful sounds out of thin air (and this is exactly how music gets made from a physics standpoint) ... that moment never really leaves you. And we are the lucky souls who get to give that feeling to countless young musicians over the coming months. Thanks for reading, and we look forward to seeing you soon!!!
